My honours project in my final year at Massey University explored the potential that educational board games have to aid children with learning new information. My focus was on the invertebrate life in Aotearoa. My final output is a functional 2-player board game which introduces players to 47 unique invertebrates and teaches 120 different facts about bugs.
Entopia is a push-pull style board game that introduces players to the invertebrates of Aotearoa. Players take turns playing cards, flipping tiles on the board and deploying bug meeples to protect their land. Card actions are based on the real world behaviours of bugs and with 120 unique invertebrate facts, players are able to learn about our overlooked minibeasts through gameplay. Entopia is easy to learn and can be replayed over and over, allowing players to memorise more about the featured bugs.Â
